2023 presidency: ‘Igbo people cannot unite’, says award-winning Chimamanda

Award-winning Nigerian author, Chimamanda Adichie has said the people of the South-East geo-political zone cannot unite to work towards the actualisation of an Igbo presidency in the forthcoming 2023 election.

Speaking with a popular writer, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, the celebrated writersaid, “It is ironic that people of the South-East who can’t unite to ensure a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction, are pushing for Biafra actualization”.

She maintained that the people of the South-East need to re-strategise politically if they are to ever achieve their Biafra .

According to Adichie, “There is no Biafra; there are new movements. But for me, it’s a question of being practical. Where would the border be?”

She further said that what is propelling these movements is a sense of marginalisation, which according to her is completely valid.
“Quite frankly, I’ve observed the terrible leadership that we have in the South-East. Igbo people cannot unite.

“If for example, we say we want an Igbo president, why then are we talking about Biafra. There is a lot of political work we need to do in the South-East.

“We need to do a lot of re-thinking on how we can strategize politically before we can talk about any Biafra”, she stated.
